The zone has invested more than RMB 6 billion in the large-scale construction of infrastructure, including water supply, power supply, natural gas, drainage, discharge, road communication and land leveling. The zone has finished the construction of main road network, drainage and sewage pipelines, large sewage treatment plant, water supply project able to supply 0.25 million tons of water in the first phase, water plant able to supply 50,000 tons of water daily, natural gas transmission pipeline able to supply 1.6 billion cubic meters annually, 0.444 million KW power plant, 0.42 million KW water plant for enterprise¡¯s own use, 3-level power distribution system. It has well-equipped communication facilities including 1650 trunk lines, 6000 program-controlled telephone sets, 3000 ¡°Little Smart¡± cordless phones, mobile telecommunications and Internet. YangpuHarbor is a good natural harbor with one 3000-tonnage rollon pier, two 20,000-ton and three 35,000-tonnage general piers having been built, including a standard container pier, which is the only one in Hainan. COSCO and China Shipping have taken part in the sea transportation of Yangpu. They have opened fixed liners from Yangpu to Hong Kong, Tianjin and Dalian. One 0.3-million-tonnage crude oil pier, one 0.1-million finished oil pier, three 5000-tonnage finished oil piers and seven 3000~20,000-tonnage pulp and its raw material piers are under construction for the time being. A large harbor has taken shape. It is estimated the handling capacity of YangpuHarbor by 2007 will reach 30 million tons. The development zone is connected with Hainan West Expressway via a finely built exit road. The Guangdong-Hainan Railway, which is under construction will link Yangpu with the railway network of the Mainland and make the goods transportable between Yangpu and all parts of the country through railway. Besides, the zone also has a complete set of service facilities such as: bank, school, hospital, cinema, stadium, hotel and restaurant. |

Location advantage: Neighboring ASEAN trade area, located in the center of the main sea route of Southeast Asia. Port advantage: Yangpu is the largest peninsula in Hainan. It has an area of over 350 km2 and over 150 km long coastline including over 70 km long deepwater coastline, able to accommodate more than eighty 0.3-million-tonnage piers. The average water depth in YangpuBay is 11m and the largest depth is 24.6m. 30,000-tonnage ships can sail in and out of the bay without being affected by tide. | Geographic
location Lying on the Yangpu Peninsula in the northwest of Hainan Province at E109011' and N19043', the zone is 128 km from Haikou and 145 km from Haikou Meilan International Airport. Surrounded by sea in three sides with 24 km long coastline, it is home to Yangpu Harbor-a state category-one port, which is strategically located on the international sea route of Singapore-Hong Kong-Shanghai-Osaka and is 1329 kn from Singapore, 389 kn from Hong Kong, 1693 kn from Osaka, 151 kn from Viet Nam¡¯ Haiphong, 488 kn from Guangzhou, 172 kn from Guangdong¡¯s Zhanjiang and 125 kn from Guangxi¡¯s Beihai. |
| Climate Yangpu features a tropical island monsoon climate where eastern and northeastern winds prevail and the occurrence rate of winds above force 6 is only 0.06%. The annual average rainfall is about 1100mm. The relative humidity is between 82% (summer) and 26% (winter). The annual average temperature is 24.7¡æ. |
| Geology and
landform The development zone was built on terrace plain 100m below sea level, which is slightly higher in northwest, a little lower in southeast and flat in general. The soil consists of ¡°Zhanjiang Group¡± clay, siliceous loam, basalt and quartz sand, featuring greater building bearing power. |
| Sea and
bays YangpuPeninsula features broad sea area and deep seawater with over 20 bays and about 150 km long coastline including more than 70 km long deepwater coastline. It can accommodate more than 80 piers with tonnage ranging from 10,000 to 300,000. In YangpuBay, the average water depth is 11m and the largest depth is 24.6m. The 30,000-tonnage ships can sail in and out of the bay with being affected by tide. |
| Resources According to preliminary estimation, the oil deposit in the whole province is 23~30 billion ton, accounting for one third of China¡¯s total. It is one of the places where the oil and gas of four oceans meet and is dubbed ¡°the 2ndPersian Gulf¡±. The Nanhai (South China Sea) Yinggehai Basin 200~300 km from Yangpu has been proved to have a gas deposit of about 600 billion cubic meters in total. Nanhai is a place with most abundant deposit of flammable ice in China. The preliminary survey revealed the total deposit of flammable ice in South China Sea is around half of the total oil deposit on the land of China. In Xisha Ocean Trough, 5242 square kilometers of sea area with the distribution of flammable ice has been circled where deposit is estimated to be 4.1 trillion cubic meters. According to the estimation on mineral deposit, the total deposit of flammable ice in the South China Sea is about half of the deposit of conventional oil and gas in China. Hainan is the origin of natural rubber in China with an annual output of solid rubber of 0.33 million tons. The high-grade iron ore deposit on the island is about 400 million tons, accounting for 71% of China¡¯s total. The average grade is 51.1% and the highest grade is 68%, moreover, the ore has low content of sulfur and phosphor and little manganese. The grade of ore tops national list. The surrounding areas of Yangpu are also rich in quartz sand resources with a deposit of 83 million tons. The production capacity of natural gas in the surrounding areas of Yangpu will reach six billion cubic meters in 2005 and 25.7 billion cubic meters in 2015. |
